This superb addition is perfect for anyone who enjoys the history of Japan or war strategy games. Though it isn't necessary, the game offers repetitive pre/post battle planning & victory scenes, though seem to be added in for motivational effect. And the cut-scenes are beautifully done to allow the gamer to fully appreciate Nobunaga's prowess. Battles against rebels and insurgents become available in each province to offer you the option to train and increase the skills of your retainers for the upcoming battles that advance the plot. The battles are larger and more difficult as the game progresses and your role as a Daimyo increases. The story progresses regularly weather you favour some over the others. You can reward and seize items from your vassals at whim. This triggers you to charge into the enemy army solo and enters a sort of Warriors-style battle arena where you ride around on a horse and defeat as many enemies as you can. Each retainer has their own level, equipment, troop class & manual (which allows them to specialize in battlefield abilities) Loyalty is not an issue. Each battle has a planning stage where you are able to deploy your retainers, and fight with their units. The game play focuses on planning and fighting in various battles against rival warlords both insignificant and powerful. The game is centred around his military exploits, compassion and devotion to the common people, and tolerance to foreigners in Japan. The flow of the game begins with the player selecting a mission from those available on the map. Who attempted to unify the warring states of Japan. Kessen III refines the mechanics of the previous games even further while introducing new core elements. Kessen 3 flamboyantly & extravagantly depict the life of Japanese warlord, Nobunaga Oda. Personally one of my favourite play station 2 games.
